Shore excursion Pompeii ruins-Amalfi coast - Full day
Leaving from your hotel or villa our expert driver-guide will meet you, drive through the Sorrento Peninsula. Overlooking the hills you will find the promontory of Punta Campanella that ends in a tourquase sea and seems that touches the isle of Capri, covered with beautiful orange and lemon trees, and it's covered by the always green and lush mediterranian maquis.
You then arrive in Pompeii, beautiful and thriving Roman city, destroyed by the Vesuvio in '79 a.d., whose ruins recently come to light and are now fixed destination of turist from all over the world.
The visit to the escavation, whose entrance ticket is 11 euro per person, can either be made by our private guide every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., or by the main gate you will find an audioguide rental station.
The visit to the ruins startfrom Porta Marina, the main entrance, that will bring you a Via Marina, excellent sample of Roman architecture, lilired by fountains, buildings and private homes. In these beautiful homes you can admire wall paintings depicting various episodes of the daily life. ontinuing the via Marina, you arrive at the centre of the commerce and political life: the Forum. From here you can easily reach the major buildings and monuments such as: the house of the Fauno: which takes his names thanks to a bronze statue at the Faun; the house of Vetti owned by the Vettius brothers, the richest wine merchant of Pompeii; le Terma Suburbane, le Terme Stabiane and the Villa dei Misteri which is one of the most beautiful roman villa where are conserved the most high artistic frescos. The visit will last at least 2 hours after we will be driving on the Valico di Chiunsi route where you will taste the best of this scenic countryside the undiscovered side of Amalfi Coast while you admire and enjoy the views at his hills and sea. We arrive in Ravello situated on a small promontory called Cimbronium, a beautiful terrace overlooking the sea and the villages of Minor and Maiori.
Her beauty was immortalized by Boccaccio in "Decameron" and William Turner with his paintings that are now exposed to the Tate Gallery in London.
In the centre of the town, on the right of the cathedral, a square tower marks the entrance to the Villa Rufolo, a complex of buildings of the second half of the'200 and where you can admire the Richard Wagner terrace, so called because it inspired the garden of Klingsor, the second act of Parsifal, and today you can assist at the Ravello summer Festival.
Walking to the top of the promontory you will find the majestic beauty Villa Cimbrone, built on the foundations of an ancient villa Patrizia, which hosted sovereign and illustrious names of science and politics.
In the late 800's was purchased by a distinguished citizen English Ernest William Beckett. In 1938 Greta Garbo and Leopold Stokowsky find the secret of happiness after living the strong outcry of Hollywood. The most important point of the villa is the infinitive terrace so called from Gore Vidal for his majestic opening above the horizon. After our tour of Ravello we will drive down hill to the famous town of Amalfi, founded by Romans, thanks to its maritime traffic and it become in the IX century one of the richest and important Sea Republic: in the Mediterranean their domination till the Middle East.
The Duomo is certainly the most famous monument, Arabic, Byzantine, Moorish and Baroque style, realized in the IX century and dedicated to the patron St. Andrew. The bronze facade portal where made in Constantinople in 1066 and dominate the main square with its staircase.
Next to the Cathedral you will enter the charming Amalfi Chiostro del Paradiso, where the archbishop Capuano built the Cript to accommodate the remains of the St. Andrew Apostle.
In the inn part of the town, called Valle dei Mulini, you can visit the paper museum, an old paper mill factory trasformed into a museum in 1969. The museum has all the machinery and equipment of the propety restored and fully functional, and where you can assist how they used to make paper by hand.
Along the way returning back to Positano there are villages as the Fiordo del Furore nestled in one of the most picturesque valley along the coast, Praiano and Marina di Praia a small fishing village that still bears witness to the old lifestyle.
